On Friday July 11th 2014 , Charlie Haden died in Los Angeles, at the age of 76. Charlie Haden ; one of the most influential bassists in the history of jazz, had a career which spanned seven decades .
In 2009, Jazz Standards featured a show on Charlie Haden, and his performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Sascha comments at the beginning of the show : “In the summer of 1989, bassist Charlie Haden performed eight concerts at the Montreal Jazz festival. What made this festival unique was that Haden played with a different group each evening.”

Nick Brignola was born in Troy, New York on July 17 1936. A baritone saxophonist ; Nick Brignola was often overlooked although he was a musician that could play any style and was comfortable while doing it.Though the albums he released as a leader were mostly hard bop played by quartets, he played as a sideman in many big bands including Woody Herman and Buddy Rich. Sascha shares tracks from a variety of CD's recorded by Nick Brignola.
